Edifice

Skyscrapers are no longer simply seen as just tall pieces of real estate. Many now take on important cultural significance for the cities and countries in which they are built and are often viewed as works of art in their own right, with all the prestige that bestows. The buildings that make up this project are not the tallest in the world, nor are they the tallest to be found in London but they are all lofty in their own way and every inch proud and soaring buildings. Each photograph is a reminder of our desire to reach ever skyward, of the beauty, form and soaring nature of these buildings. Each photograph acknowledges these buildings as works of art.

Mercier Court (formerly the Anchor building), part of the Royal Wharf development. Glenn Howells Architects have devised the masterplan for the development, along with contributions from DP Architects, Whittam Cox Architects, David Morley architects, Mae Architects, Hal Architects, Townshend Landscape Architects and Serie Architects.

Ambassador Building, Embassy Gardens, designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.

Lexicon Tower (aka Chronicle Tower), designed by the architecture, interior design, engineering, and urban planning firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP.

Lauderdale Tower, Barbican Centre, designed by Chamberlin, Powell & Bon, now considered one of the most important modernist architectural firms in post-war England. At the time of their completion, the Barbican towers were the tallest residential towers in Europe.

30 St Mary Axe (informally known as the Gherkin and previously as the Swiss Re Building). designed by Norman Foster and the Arup Group and erected by Skanska.

240 Blackfriars Road, designed by London based architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM).

30 Cannon Street, designed in 1977 for the London headquarters of Crédit Lyonnais by architects Whinney Son & Austen Hall (later Whinney McKay-Lewis Partnership)

Bernard Weatherill House, designed by EPR Architects.

The new Turnmill building, designed by architect Piercy & Co and built by McLaren Construction.

Palestra House, home of TFL (Transport For London), designed by Alsop Architects, a London based architecture firm sold to the SMC Group in 2006.

20 Fenchurch Street, nicknamed 'The Walkie-Talkie, because of its distinctive shape. Designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly.

Hugero point/Iverna Quay. Architects unknown,

Strata SE1, nicknamed "Razor" or "Electric Razor". Designed by Flanagan Lawrence, formerly BFLS.

Canaletto Tower, created by Ben van Berkel of the Dutch architectural firm UNStudio.

Unite Stratford One, designed by the architectural firm BDP.

The New London Embassy (NLE),designed by Kieran Timberlake. An American architecture firm founded by Stephen Kieran and James Timberlake in Philadelphia.

The Monument Building. Designed by Make Architects and founded by Ken Shuttleworth in 2004. The building sits alongside side the iconic Monument that was built between 1671 - 1677 and commemorates the Great Fire of London.
